I used to be totally on board with what happens in the comic showing up on screen. But I think it needs a little tweaking. He would never realistically survive that kind of wound in that world. That being said, I am still on board for the memory loss since it plays such an important part to his character in the future. So as long as they stick with that, no, I no longer think he NEEDS to lose an eye.
This I'm perfectly ok with. Let the audience sweat a little and worry that he may end up disfigured, but then let us see that it's not actually that bad. Carl is just not the right character to disfigure in the show. Not to that level. It may have worked in the comics well. Not a clue. Never read them.
It kinda works in the comics except for the fact that he had half his head blown off. It just sucks seeing him change so drastically and then hate himself because of the way he looks.
No. While I think it was important for comic Carl's development, I view TV Carl very differently. I love the transition he's made as a character and I don't think it's necessary for him to be shot in such a brutal manner. I didn't like how Carl changed after being shot, and I don't want to see the same happen to TV Carl as he's by far one of the best characters remaining on the show. Not to mention that they've already had him shot once in a life-threatening manner way back in Season 2, let's be original.
Carl seems to be on a less dark path than in the comics even before the time for the shot. (For example he had that Ben/Billy plot that he didn't have n the show) Don't think they'll do it in the show. Though if they want t follow the comics as they claim, they may do it even if it doesn't make sense.
The character is a minor as well. That might be a factor
Something needs to happen to him. I just want it to be less than blowing away a chunk of his face/head like the GN. Just losing his eye would be fine or some other type of injury.
This is where I stand too. I don't care if it's his actual eyeball, an ear injury, a scar or smaller facial injury, whatever, but something that realistically alters him and enables TPTB to incorporate some of the comic threads of his story later on.
