How did Rick guess that Carol did it?

Before Rick asked Carol pointblank and aside from seeing the hand print on the wall, i dont know how else did Rick knew that it was Carol who killed Karen and the man. How could he guess it was her? It could be anyone, right? This is what puzzling from the start. Please enlighten me.

I don't think he really believed she did at first. Process of elimination made her a suspect so he asked, but he seemed really shocked when she said yes.

It was CAROL! They showed her stab Karen in the back of the head in the flashback.

That was Rick imagining how it happened, which still leaves it ambiguous to the audience, obviously. However, I have come to accept it was Carol, no matter how much I want some radical twist to shake everything and everyone up. It just seemed like the story of the killer was tied up too quickly. They were found dead at the end of 4.02 and by the end of 4.03 Carol had confessed without missing a beat.

When it first became apparent that Karen was going to be murdered, I was hopeful for a good mystery arc with the group trying to figure out who did it and why. That would have been a great way to bring Rick back to his roots as a cop. While they did show Rick being a cop to some extent - which I enjoyed very much - it was tied up very quickly so I don't think that was the point. It wasn't about having a mystery or the group working together to figure it out unfortunately. This story is about the group and how they're going to deal with someone they thought they could trust betraying them. In a lot of ways, it's a broader version of what happened with Shane with some elements of Andrea mixed in. The overall story is a good idea and I do think the group's reaction and how they deal with this betrayal will be interesting, but I still think they made a mistake in trying to force Carol's character into the role of the murderer. That's created a lot of problems with the overall story.

That's why there are so many conspiracy theories and viewers actually on Team Carol. Because they can't imagine that this is what has been done to Carol's character. It says alot about how the writers may not actually not be writing storylines for character development, but for shock value. And that cheapens what could be the best show on television.

There wasn't a whole ton of choices, plus the way she has been as of late and him finding out about her teaching the kids... Lots of secrets

Also remember Rick was a cop, it was kinda his job to read people.

Well, I do think the actual story is a good one and it works well in terms of the other characters - thus far anyway. But I do agree that trying to force Carol into the role of the murderer was done for shock value. When the overwhelming response is viewers looking for conspiracy theories that actually change the story because it's not believable for even one of the characters involved, there is a problem. When you add in that MMB didn't even believe it and had to talk herself into it, the problem just becomes more obvious.

The sad thing is that it probably would have worked brilliantly in season 3 because it would have been believable for Carol to do these things and act this way coming off the events of season 2. But it just doesn't work now because they made a point to show she was recovering from that in season 3 and there just wasn't anything that happened in season 3 or even the first couple of episodes for season 4 that would serve as a catalyst for Carol to become so cold and paranoid. They've gone about this backwards and it may very well cause what could have been a great story to fall apart.

Wow I never watched that and thought it might be Rick trying to reenact it in his mind.
    Very possible.
Not how I interpreted it though.

I think, as of this point in the season, the writers are insulting my intelligence by wanting me to believe Carol did this. They did not lay the groundwork for this at all. I am getting the impression the writers want us to assume a lot of things and well, we all know what is said about assuming. . .
