    Playing with Time

I might be in the minority here, but I find that little unrealistic details bother me above all else. So my biggest complaint about the finale isn't how dragged out it was (that's my number 2 complaint) but the time jump from night to day. It's not super unrealistic, it can definitely be explained away, and quite easily, but the way it was done was jarring for me.

In S6 finale we have TF venturing into the woods because Eugene suggests "They do not know the minute to minute occupancy of said rust bucket and the sun is setting soon". They are captured after that, but as a viewer I was in the frame of mind that it was just after sundown. Then it couldn't be more than 20 minutes until the Lucille happens and Rick is dragged away in the aftermath. Then they drive and... it's morning. That was very jarring to me, I was not expecting the night to have passed so fast. Maybe the drive was a lot longer than it seemed, maybe it was already really late when they were captured. BUT WAIT IT'S GIMPLE. He never cared about any of that stuff, he probably just thought the bridge scene would look better in the daylight.

Very petty, I know, but it is honestly small details like that which really capture my attention. The practical things - if people get them wrong, it really takes me out of the story.

What did they do in that clearing while Negan was gone with Rick? Did the Saviours just stand still with their guns pointed? Did TF stay kneeling the whole time? What happened if one of them had to pee? One of them would HAVE to pee. Do you think Simon escorted them into the woods to a good spot or just make them peepee in their pants? Were there card games? So many questions that will never be answered :(

Really good point about morning arriving so quickly. Then again, it became nighttime in a matter of minutes in No Way Out. Gimple plays fast and loose with details and it's insulting. As far as if anyone in the line up had to pee, I'm betting it was pee pee pants city during the lucillings.

Well, you also have to factor in that they waited until it was full dark before they split up - so it probably would have been around 8:00 or 9:00 when they said their goodbyes to Eugene at the RV. Possibly later if they took the time to map out a route for Eugene as well as one for themselves. We could also speculate that they intentionally waited until later in hopes that might give them a better chance of success. Plus, they were traveling on foot at that point and carrying Maggie on a stretcher - they can easily account for quite a bit of time there. It's going to take longer to walk anywhere on foot - especially through the woods - and carrying someone on a stretcher just slows you down even more. I don't think it's that much of a stretch.

I want another episode of the characters still in line awkwardly sitting there for two or three hours. I guess it'll have to be two or three episodes.

That seriously had to suck for everyone - even the Saviors. How boring for them all to have to just fucking stand there while Negan plays his mind-games with Rick. I wonder if Negan went out of his way to have such a big ordeal with the leader of each group he deals with or if Rick is just special.

Maybe it depends on if the leader was broken right away. I could be wrong, but wasn't part of the reason for that.... trip was to break Rick since he was still looking at Negan with a "I'm gonna kill you" expression??
So my guess is that if the leader was broken right away, a field trip wasn't needed. But if the leader was still needed, then Negan would take them on a trip.

After just watching the brutal murder of two of his "family" members, Rick should have pretended to be broken. By not doing so, he put other lives at risk and almost had to chop off his own son's arm. Had he played the part, Negan and his men would have left a lot sooner, his group wouldn't have had to sit in the same spot as long as they did, and Maggie could have gotten medical attention quicker. Also, we wouldn't have had to endure the "Get me my ax" artsy/flashback/what if filler scene.

I think he saw that Rick wasn't completely broken yet. He wanted to get that look in Rick's eye where Rick realized that he no longer was in control, and Negan accomplished that with the threat to Carl.
