The Walking Dead Has a Major Drop in Ratings: Lowest Rating Since S3 Premiere

The Walking Dead” Season 8 premiere, also the show’s 100th episode, posted the series’ lowest premiere ratings since its third season.

According to Nielsen Live+Same Day data, the AMCseries averaged a 5.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.4 million total viewers on Sunday night. The Season 3 premiere, which aired in 2012, averaged a 5.8 and 10.86 million viewers by comparison. This also means that the Season 8 premiere is the third-lowest in series history, ahead of only Season 2 and Season 1.

My view is FTWD has really harmed the original. Sure of course science fiction, and certainly apocalyptic can contain lots of metaphors, raise societal questions, but I think FTWD has turned a lot of people off with its particularly crude "lessons" for the audience. Frankly it is one of the worst spin offs I have seen.

I know a lot of people who stopped watching after the last season premiere.

A decline in ratings is expected after eight seasons. GoT is an exception and likely only because they've announced an end game.

Of course, Glenngate, the finale cliffhanger, and killing two beloved characters just sped up the process a little.

Hey, don't blame FTWD. That show's had a decent season. The ratings dip is merely a reflection of TWD's lack of care and effort. They're okay with making a meh product, but audiences are having none of that.

What if I told you FTWD 3.01-3.16 is achieving better ratings then TWD?à

Also, how did s3 get low ratings? It's one of my favorite episodes. The prison courtyard takeover (not the first one with Rick alone and Carl sniping with a pistol) imo is one of the 5 best scenes in TWD. We finally get to see Maggie in action and it was iconic with the riot shield walkers.

Sorry, but all of us have opinions, and I know a lot of people really turned off by FTWD, and I do believe this has harmed TWD.

I've definitely noticed the piracy.... only 2477 when I got mine while it used to be thirty times that amount.

Season 3 had a really strong start but the show was still building a viewer base. The S3 premiere's ratings are only considered low because the popularity of the show continued to grow from that point. At the time it would have been great ratings for the series.
