FTWD 4X02 FULL Summary - Based on Advance Showing on AMC Premiere

I watched 402 on AMC premiere and was asked for a plot summary. Here you go.

The word BEFORE is on the screen.

Country music plays as it appears normalcy has set in. Sleeping characters, clean surroundings and sunshine. It’s apparent they found safety. Luciana is back but we don’t know when or how that happened and we don’t find out this episode. Nick and her are a happy couple

Each rises to make coffee and breakfast and Alicia opens the curtains to expose the baseball field and a thriving community

As they go about their day we see everyone has a job. Finally we catch up to Madison. She is with a little girl named Charlie. I guess she’s 9. The girl is sad and isn’t ready to answer questions about her family. She does tell Madison where she was before they found her

Alicia expresses concern over her mother’s lack of sleep when she hears hammering. She goes and finds her, this is when we hear a man over a PA “Happy 365 days in the Diamond.”

Madison is working on building a room for Charlie and Alicia gives her coffee.

Meanwhile Nick is farmer man and he has a turnip problem. They’ve all gone bad. Charlie looks on and asks if they have food and how much. Nick tells her she need not worry about it. Pretty soon they won’t have to leave at all. Nick walks away Charlie stares at the crops.

A couple new people join Madison and they stand around a hood of a car as she points to a map where Charlie was. It’s outside what they call the safe zone. One man says not to go, Madison quickly retorts, “We went out there for you.”

Madison says that’s what they do. They find families.

Madison, Strand, Luciana and Alicia prepare to leave. A flirty encounter between Strand and another man occurs as Nick tells them to get the girl a book, hers is old, then jokingly reminds Luciana that she left him once and he’s not letting go of that soon

As they depart, Charlie asks Nick why he doesn’t go out and he says he prefers in inside

Madison and the team arrive in the town. It is picked clean. No walkers or survivors. They split up. In the town is one of those number flags we saw in 4x01

Madison finds a burnt campsite and as she radios for them to wrap up, she is greeted at gunpoint by a woman. The woman wants her stuff and car. Cunningly Madison clicks her radio button and the others come to rescue her.

Once she knows she’s outnumbered the woman runs. But Madison pursues her not wanting her to leave and be alone. The chase brings them to the roof of one of those fuel towers, the rood collapses and the woman falls in. The basin is thick with black stuff and walkers. The woman is good at taking them out but there are too many. After telling Strand, “open the hatch” Madison jumps in to save the woman. Together they fight walkers until Strand and Alicia open the hatch and walkers and the woman pour out. Alicia goes in to find her mother, at first it looks like Madison is a walker, but she is not.

All is fine, evening arrives, Luciana goes to the burnt campsite and finds the book, The Little Prince.

Meanwhile, Strand asks Madison, “Who on God’s earth did we risk life and limb to save this time?” Telling us they do this often.

Madison replies they didn’t get her name but then adds, “No one’s gone until they’re gone.” Again, reiterating a different mindset.

The woman says her name is Naomi, and apologizes. She doesn’t know who put the walkers in a tank, and says she’s been alone the whole time.

It’s time to head back to the stadium and they bring Naomi with them.

Back at the Stadium, Nick is burning turnips and hears music. He peeks out and sees only walkers. He decides to go look because his mom isn’t back yet. He sneaks out nervously, with Charlie’s help, then freaks out, flashing back to the dam, we now know he has PTSD. Nick is scared of everything. Walkers attack his car and he crashes, he is saved by Strand’s potential love interest. As he gets out of the car, he is then saved by Madison and the gang returning. Nick is not the Nick we knew.

Inside Madison tells Charlie she couldn’t find her family and asks what happened to her camp. We don’t find out because we go to Nick, getting his head fixed by Naomi who reveals she is a nurse. Madison arrives and her and Naomi talk. She tells her there are 47 people there. Naomi doesn’t understand why they are welcoming her but Madison explains, they all did things and she thought she lost her kid, she found them. They are who they are because of what they have done.

Outside the gates, Strand his potential love interest retrieve the car Nick Crashed while Luciana keeps an eye out. Suddenly she calls them in to run. They do and a slew of tractor trailers and buses arrive.

They get inside, locked the gates as Alicia orders them to the armory.

In the parking lot, an El Camino stops, a guys gets out, gets on a bike, plays music and leads all the parking lot walkers into a trailer, then puts up a white flag like they have been seeing and spray paints a number on it. After he does that. People emerge from the vehicles with lawn chairs and coolers, setting up as if they are tailgating.

Madison goes out and faces the guy who seems to be the leader, he offers her a beer and says his name is Mel. She says they have a lot of people with a lot of guns, telling him she saw what they did to the camp. He says he didn’t do it, they cleaned up the mess and tried to warn them. Just like he’s warning Madison. He tells her about her bad crops, Nick, the amount of guns, and then calls out. It is revealed Charlie has been his plant. He tells Madison he wants her stuff and for her to go, or join them or he will wait for them to die. Pretty much, Mel owns up that his people are like locust, they go and take everything. Madison said, “They aren’t going anywhere.”

She goes back in. Morning comes, she is business as usual. Coffee, building, working while the people outside watch.

Luciana goes out and give the book she found to Charlie.

    Cut to NOW

Alicia, Nick and Strand have Morgan and crew. Morgan insists they aren’t who they think they are. Luciana finds a flag in Al’s tank with the number 51, Strand accuses them of being with the group The Vultures’. Al denies it, Alicia says, “if you aren’t with them. Show is where you found it.” The entire group, get in her tank and take off.

It doesn’t quite pick up where 401 ends … and that’s ok.

A big word ‘Before’ flashes on the screen just before we are reunited with Team Clark. A happy go lucky community complete with country music, having breakfast and rebuilding life in a baseball stadium (Hence the Diamond in the title) We learn quickly that they have been there a year. Happy Anniversary day.

The episode centers around Madison, Nick, Alicia and a little girl named Charlie. Strand is in there, he annoys me slightly. Charlie was found by our group. Madison has softened and for reasons I am sure we’ll find out in later episodes, her focus, after finding her own kids is to help others find their families. A ‘No Family left behind’ policy.

Madison is determined to go out and find Charlie’s family. Charlie’s direction leads them to a small town.

When we left off at the end of episode 401, Team Clark is out on the road, looking desperate. 402 takes place before the events, and we can only assume the new group out there is the reason.

Not sure of the policy with posting summaries so here are some spoiler tidbits.

Daniel isn't in the first half of season 4.

"We can’t confirm if Fear the Walking Dead’s former Salvadoran soldier survived the dam explosion, after all he has a penchant for re-appearing after being assumed dead. But if you’re expecting to see him during at least the first half of Season 4, don’t hold your breath."

    Thanks!
I was hoping we wouldn't go back and forth in time with different plot lines, but I fully understand why.
The first episode had to focus on Morgan and it introduced the other 2 new characters very well.

I don't like that they're basically recycling plot points from the original show (farmer Rick, demanding half their stuff). This show had a chance to be different, and they're falling right back into the same groove that TWD led with.
