Trump Caves on Border Wall Demand and Agrees to End Longest Closure in US History

"Donald Trump has announced that a short-term deal to reopen the federal government has been reached without allocating funds for his promised US-Mexico border wall, marking an end to the longest government shutdown in US history.

Nearly 35 days without a fully functioning government, the president announced in an address from the White House Rose Garden that a deal had been made with congressional leadership to reopen the federal government for three weeks."

I don’t see it as caving at all. It’s a good faith move that’s going to make Democrats put their money where their mouth is when it comes to negotiating on border security. If (When) they don’t come to the table there’ll be another shutdown in three weeks or he’ll declare a national emergency and get the Wall.

If Trump manages to get the border wall built, and if the democrats win the next presidential election, will the democrat president have the wall torn down?

I agree. Dems said that the shutdown needed to be ended before they would negotiate. At this point, if they refuse to negotiate and he declares a national emergency, the DACA extension he offered may be off the table and the Dems will only have themselves to blame. Its nice that they supported funding a wall for Jordan though.

I'm glad federal workers will get their pay and traffic disruptions will be eased. It's just the height of stupidity that Trump allowed far right outrage in mid-December to cause him to reject the same deal that he would ultimately agree to a month later, just with his approval rating several points lower and Democrats solidly behind Nancy Pelosi.

And now instead of his cutting his losses on a wall he is never getting, the dude says in his press conference that if a deal isn't reached in three weeks, he'll shut down the government again. The art of the deal...

Such a disappointment. He should just take it out of our taxes. My family already said that they wouldn't mind. I'd gladly pay for a wall over all the good for nothing whores in this country who lay out their backs and shit out seven+ kids. Take away their food stamps that I pay for too since I pay for the shit yet I can't even get any of what I pay for because me and my wife make too much money. Fucking bullshit. I'm fed up with this crap.

I’m fine with him declaring a national emergency. I do not want another government shut down. It wasn’t just government workers who were furloughed but Active duty Coast Guard military personnel not getting paid. The retirees were next February 1st. to not get paid.
