    Q&A Episode 9x09 "Adaptation"

    From the spoiler ninjas -

    And away we go!

Where do we pick up with Daryl and Michonne’s group? What do they do after the Whisperer is unmasked?

We pick up with the scene from the 9B trailer in the cemetery and another big fight with the Whisperers. The group kills several more and finally make their way back to their horses.

    How is Lydia captured?

On the way back to the Hilltop from the cemetery, the group encounters another small group of walkers on a bridge. In order to determine which ones are Whisperers, Daryl starts shooting them in the leg with arrows. The real walkers keep coming towards him, but the ones who are Whisperers fall to the ground and are eaten. Finally, one of the Whisperers raises her hands and drops to her knees to surrender. It's Lydia.

Back at the Hilltop, what is the reaction to Jesus’ death? Who will lead now?

It's pretty somber, and Tara and Enid take it the hardest. While most assume Tara will become the new leader, Michonne finally convinces Daryl that he would be a better fit, at least for now.

Who interacts with Lydia at Hilltop and how do those interactions go?

Daryl and Michonne first try and interrogate her, but that goes nowhere. Lydia just cries and plays the sympathy card while telling lie after lie. Daryl finally figures out that Henry has taken a liking to Lydia (he's still in jail too for the drunk and disorderly). He decides to leave them alone, hoping Lydia will open up to Henry, while listening from outside the jail window.

How do they plan on dealing with the Whisperers?

They're not sure yet. Daryl wants to work on Lydia some, to try and get as much information about them before they act.

What is going on with Negan? Where does he go?

He goes straight back to the Sanctuary, only to discover that it's abandoned. All that's left are a few walkers in the courtyard, including one of his former lieutenants, "Big Ritchie." There’s more to Negan’s story in this episode...

Is something going on with Rosita? Do we have a love triangle on our hands?

Rosita is pregnant, but Siddiq is the father. She tells Siddiq about it. They apparently had a short fling before Father G. Eugene overhears Rosita and Siddiq’s conversation. (Love...square?)

What is Judith up to in this episode?

Judith encounters Negan when he's about to climb over the wall to leave Alexandria. You think Negan has been busted, but he tells a story about how Judith's mom and dad said he would serve some bigger purpose in the future. Well, how can he do that if he's stuck in a prison cell? Then after he promises to never ever hurt someone again, Judith decides to let him go.

Does anyone get hurt or die?

    No.

What’s going on at the Kingdom? Does Carol make it back?

Carol and the Kingdom are not in this episode.

Do we see Alpha and/or Beta in this episode? What are they doing?

Yes, at the very end when she captures Alden and Luke using a sawed-off shotgun.

    ETA -

Regarding “sweet moments” between Michonne and Daryl that were mentioned in one of the reviews:

Our source mentioned that in this episode Michonne will make a comment about how it’s good that they are bringing Jesus’ body back home, and that it will help people move on. Daryl says that he’s sorry he couldn’t do the same for her (regarding Rick’s body). Michonne thanks Daryl for trying and also for “after”. (Hmm maybe a reference to the mysterious event?)

    UPDATE #1 1/26/2018

Clarification on Tara leading Hilltop from the spoiler ninjas -

I need to clarify something because I think the way one of the answers is worded is giving off the wrong impression.

Regarding the leadership situation... The Hilltoppers are looking to Tara to lead, which she accepts. There’s not an election or anything. It’s basically Tammy saying, “Hey, Jesus trusted you and so do we. So you’re the boss bitch now.” while the Hilltoppers nod in agreement. Ok, that was paraphrased and not actual dialogue. Sorry to disappoint.

Michonne is supportive of Tara as a leader. In her conversation with Daryl, she is affirming that he is a great judge of character. She explains that the people of Hilltop could really use his help right now. She’s suggesting that he helps Tara. Now whether this will evolve into a leadership/coleadership situation remains to be seen.

Daryl is by no means the boss bitch of Hilltop in this episode...

    UPDATE #2 1/26/2018

Clarification on Daryl interrogating Lydia from the spoiler ninjas -

The Daryl leaving Henry to talk with Lydia is another one that might be interpreted differently once people watch the episode.

I don’t think we can definitively say that Daryl’s only intention for leaving Henry and Lydia alone was so that he could get her to open up and talk. It could also end up becoming an afterthought as Daryl ends up listening to them.

During the second interrogation, Daryl is threatening Lydia and starts dragging her out of her cell. Henry sticks up for her and yells at Daryl to stop. Meanwhile, Lydia is a crying wreck and it’s all pretty intense. When Henry keeps yelling, Daryl eventually stops dragging her around and locks her back in the cell. He’s also not happy with Henry for interfering. I think it’s possible that his anger and frustration with the situation causes Daryl to stop what he’s doing and leave. Wanting Henry to get more intel out of Lydia might not immediately be what’s on his mind.

Again, this is all up for interpretation. That’s why I always say wait until the episodes air. We aren’t always getting the full picture and sources can have different interpretations. It’s difficult to draw conclusions without seeing the full series of events with your own eyeballs.

Daryl, leader of Hilltop just because he has star billing. Stop snubbing Tara.

HenryxLydia apparently being set up to be less from the young love perspective, and more from the "Daryl has a scheme" perspective? :/

Will Negan do his bigger purpose for Judith? "More to his story this episode...." Like? Hopefully this is the last time we ever see Sanctuary.

Siddiq as the father of Rosita's baby, how many guys has Eugene let slide by here? Death flags are all around this love square the more it complicates.

Rosita is pregnant? JFC that's stupid.

Of course Daryl and Michonne get to be all high and mighty as usual, nothing's changed there.

Finally Negan is back. I hated him for so long but I've missed him.

9A was so great and now this episode just seems lame as shit

Only thing that sounds good here is the Negan/Judith scene.

So wait a second, you're going to introduce the big bad villains of this season by having the main group already kill a bunch of them very easily in the beginning of the fucking episode ? Ok, got you ! Also lol at the whole Rosita, Eugene, Father Gabriel and Siddiq thing, the people who were optimistic about Kang as a showrunner should start worrying right about now .

I wonder how much Negan's story will parallel the Governor's story in S4

I have to agree about the Negan thing, like you either are going to do spoilers or not, this half and half thing is starting to look suspicious to me and it's not even the first time it happened, i was able to overlook the Carl thing because the actor personally contacted the spoiler people but what fucking reason would they have to hide whatever we have to find out about Negan, it's most likely his origin story from the comic which most people already know, so why they don't just say it ?

Youre forgetting the cease and desist orders when it came to the bat. The fact that real spoilers told us exactly what happened to Shane, and Merle's death. Then all of a sudden there's spoiler ninjas which is just such a fuckin bullshit Public Relations name to call it. Take a look at the last 3 or 4 seasons worth of these things and they read like commercials of coming attractions. Funny how when it's absolutely something they don't want out it can be done.
