    Canada To Reject Refugees

I thought they were better than the US in this area. Oops!
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-ca...pS4vSTSHQtq3F8
Canada intends to change the law to make it harder for asylum seekers rejected by countries like the US to file refugee claims at the border.
The move comes as thousands of asylum seekers have crossed the border after their claims were rejected in the US.
Amendments were introduced on Monday evening in the Liberal government's 392-page omnibus budget bill.
An influx of asylum seekers crossing at the US-Canada border has become a hot button political issue.
The law would allow immigration officers at the border to reject refugee claims if the asylum seeker has already made a claim in another country that has an immigration information-sharing agreement with Canada.
These countries include the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Also, apparently they have had a whopping 40,000 cross illegally from the US in the last two years! lol....wonder what they would do if they had 100,000 cross in a month.

Probably if their claim for asylum has been rejected by one of those countries then they are not genuine refugees anyway, so I guess it makes sense. As long as the other country had a good reason for rejecting them.

Solution is simple - you got a “no home for hate” sign on your lawn , then you get a nice immigrant refugee family in your two car garage
    case closed

My understanding that the idea is to streamline a clogged immigration system. The new rules apply to people who have already made a claim for refugee status in another “safe” nation, specifically one of the other four Five Eyes countries, from making a claim in Canada as well. It’s assumed that the refugee application systems of these countries are similar enough that anyone rejected by one of them would also be rejected in Canada. That may not be true anymore.

The new legislation would also prevent people who have had their refugee applications to Canada rejected from applying again.

In the last couple of years, we have seen thousands of people who were legally in the U.S. crossing illegally into Canada because they were afraid that their status would be arbitrarily revoked by Trump, as well as people who just thought Canada would be more welcoming. Maybe some are people whose applications have been rejected in the U.S. but not all. Something like half the applications by all these people are rejected.

It’s a real problem but Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition (AKA the Conservative Party) is trying to make it into a crisis to pander to their base. We are in an election year so the government’s response is to crack down in order to pander in their turn and also to distract from a scandal.

Canada is a nation of something like 37,000,000 people, which is about 11% of the population of the U.S.A. We accept a lot of immigrants and refugees but we can’t handle, physically, the same number that the U.S. can.

    Saying things like
"not genuine refugees" and "can't handle the influx" are terms that are considered racist in the US.
Looks like there's some "hate" here in these comments.

Note to Canada, don't say or imply that you will take in whoever the US rejects if you don't really mean it.
