    Coronavirus

So are you guys worried about the virus?

    Are you making preparations?

What will you do if they try to forcibly quarantine you like they have been doing to those in China?

I'm not freaked out or anything but I have believed that the numbers of infected and dead have been much, much higher than they have reported. I think I read somewhere that the 15th case is now confirmed here in the US in San Antonio.

Hey @Sassenach I was thinkin about starting this thread but I like the whole ďstandĒ aspect of it lol.
seriously though now North Korea has it although itís denying it, the thing is with that country they just execute the sick which certainly is one way of curtailing the problem only thing is you sneeze you die so thereís that. If this thing runs through that country of 25 million most of Asia is fucked. I donít believe anything the filthy Chinese say, after all murdering millions of their own people is in their modern history as is the cheapness of human life as a whole. Wonderful socialist /commie doctrines always have the same outcome (right Bernie you fuck) I also am not naive our Govt will no way come right out and tell the truth at first itís all obsfucation until they canít anymore. I always agreed with George Carlin who would laugh at these save the planet fucks, heíd say the planets fine been here billions of years, itís a self healing organism, the planetís not going anywhere - we are

I had read the other day that most of the deaths were of those older than 60 and/or with pre-existing conditions. https://heavy.com/news/2020/01/wuhan...s-sars-deaths/ I don't know what kind of pre-existing conditions they have in mind, but I'm in the >60 group. The thing is, something's going to get me at some point; however, a simple common cold makes me miserable, so I can't even imagine the miserable death one would have from this.

Those in quarantine at Lackland returned from travel to China. I understand some cruise ships have also been quarantined. I can only hope they don't run out of booze.

Were I to get it and if I knew I had it (I'd be more likely to hole up in bed, undiagnosed, hoping it would go away), I would be ok with being quarantined as long as the food was decent.

I'm not worried right now but I am paying attention to what little news the Chinese gives out. As they don't have a history of being truthful, I doubt the numbers are correct and even though there was quite a jump in deaths and cases last night, they're still probably not right. On CNBC this morning, a guest was saying that China won't allow the CDC in and that they are only allowing two members of WHO in but won't let them into Wuhan.

When it comes to preparing, I live in rural Maine so at this time of year, its always wise to stock up on necessities so we've got some stuff. If it looks like the virus will take a bad turn here in the US, we'll add to our stock make a plan to quarantine ourselves at home. If it all happens, alcohol will be at the top of my grocery list...lots of it

Fortunately for those aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship, reports are that the healthy passengers will be allowed off the ship to finish their quarantine in another facility. With the number of cases rising on the ship, they're now at 218, there was talk of testing all 3700 passengers. Not sure if that's still the case or not.

@Anton69, I agree about our govt. They and the media won't even tell the truth about the seasonal flu. The play up the seasonal flu numbers but don't give out a lot of specifics. It wasn't too many years ago that people died from "complications from the flu" but that's changed to just "flu". You also have to hunt for the age range of people who are dying, if they had other health conditions, and if they were vaccinated or not. They just push for people to get the vaccine. I'm not anti vax by any means but one would almost think big pharma had a stake in it....hmmmm.

I had the swine flu (make your jokes accordingly) back in 2010 or so, it’s the one time in my life I thought I was gonna die not by anything I caused through my own dopey actions. I gotta tell ya I know folks who take vaccines and I know some who are vehemently against it and had close relatives die without going to the doctors. I’m not gonna say either one is right or wrong because I fundamentally believe it’s your decision. But if you told me this shot is gonna not make you feel like you did that time I’d give it some deliberation

Some idiots here are afraid to go to Chinatown, thinking it is a bigger risk there. Others joke that the cure is a lime. I even heard someone turn down drinking a corona because they actually thought it put you at a greater risk of getting the virus.

Lots of fools on the public transportations to work.

I wonder if this is one of those viruses that'll somehow get a rush cure once a famous billionaire catches it.

@spookygato there are people here in Australia avoiding Chinatowns as well, and Chinese restaurants, and Chinese people in general. Some people are morons.

As far as being concerned goes, we have about 15 cases here as well, all of them Chinese nationals who are either tourists (several from the same tour group) or permanent residents who had been visiting relatives in Wuhan. So far it hasn't got into the general populace but if it does I'll be more worried, as my job entails dealing with the public. Although my company just sent us all masks, so I guess we'll be fine, lol.

My MAIN concern is what happens if it hasn't died down in a couple of months as I'm travelling then; not to Asia, thank goodness, but I am passing through Singapore Airport. I'll be pretty nervous about that I think.

I feel so sorry for all those people stuck on the Diamond Princess - they can't even leave their cabins for two weeks. Frankly I think I'd rather jump overboard. @Beatrice I heard one passenger had wine delivered by drone, so they're fine at least, lol.

I don't trust what the Chinese government are saying about this, either. I don't think it's the armageddon some people are predicting, but they've gone to a lot of effort to quarantine millions of people (& build a whole new hospital in like a week) for something that supposedly has a mortality rate of 2%. But maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I agree. They wouldn't quarantine millions for nothing. But so far it seems to mainly be sweeping through China. I do believe the death toll is a lot higher there than they say. We will most likely never know the actual numbers though.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home so I wouldn't have to worry about getting to work if it did spread more here in the US. I think we only have the 15 confirmed cases right now, but I know they have quite a few in self quarantine. But who knows how much truth there is in the US government's statements either. They lie about the numbers and stuff too so it wouldn't surprise me if they downplay it until they just can't anymore.
