Blood and Icecream Trilogy. Shaun of the Dead. Hot Fuzz. The Worlds End

    Article Here

With The Worlds End Coming out this weekend, Arrow In The Head decided to rewatch Shaun of the Dead and give a little recap for those who watched this movie once or twice. Its Part of their Test Of Time Articles.

Here are some fun facts about Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright and the Movies that made them pretty Popular in America and Around the World. Facts come from IMDB and My Own Personal Acquired Knowledge.

Actors Facts: These three worked together on a British Comedy show called "Spaced" which featured Simon Pegg as a guy who fakes a relationship with his friend so they can rent an apartment.

Shaun Of The Dead Fact: Many of the Zombie extras are fans of the TV series Spaced, which also starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and was also directed by Edgar Wright. They were recruited through the Spaced Out fan web site to be in the film.

Hot Fuzz Fact: Lead character "Nicholas Angel" was named in homage to Nick Angel who worked as music supervisor for this film as well as Shaun of the Dead.

Actors Fact: Martin Freeman aka Bilbo Baggins or Arthur Dent from Hitchhikers Guide, has been in all three of the "Blood and Ice-Cream Trilogy". He played one of the Alternate Gang in the Alley Way members in SOD, he played One of The Seargents in Hot Fuzz, and he will have a bigger role in The Worlds End as Oliver Chamberlain.

Movies Fact: SOD: First part of SP and EW's "The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy" HF: The second in SP and EW's unofficial "Blood and Ice Cream" trilogy. TWE: The third in SP and EW's unofficial "Blood and Ice Cream" Trilogy. Now the reason why it is called the "Blood and Ice Cream" Trilogy is because each film features the british brand of Ice cream called Cornetto ice cream, with a ice cream cone of a certain flavor appearing in each film. SOD features a strawberry-flavoured Cornetto, which signifies the film's bloody and gory elements, HF includes the blue original Cornetto, to signify the police element to the film, and The World's End features the green mint chocolate chip flavour in a nod to aliens and science fiction. The Cornetto Corporation approves of the name.

HF Fact: There are three LotR cameo's in HF, Jeanine is played by Cate Blanchet aka Gladriel. The crazed Santa Claus that stabs Angel in the hand is Peter Jackson the Director of LotR and The Hobbit, and the Emergency Medical Professional at the very end pushing Skinner on the gurney is Ian Holm who played Old Bilbo Baggins in the LotR trilogy. Now Martin Freeman is playing Bilbo and as you can see above has been in all 3 B&IC movies.

SOD Fact: Almost all the zombies and cast were from the show Spaced, fans of the show became zombies and actors from the show were main/supporting characters.

Movies Fact: Bill Nighy who played Viktor in Underworld has been in all three movies, in the first movie he played Philip aka Shauns step dad, he played the chief inspector in HF and will have a voice over part as "The Network" in TWE.

SOD Fact: In the commentary Edgar Wright states: when Ed attempts to cheer Shaun up at the Winchester with plans of binge drinking, he is actually summarizing the events of the next day (Z-day) entirely in drinking references. "Bloody Mary" - Checkout Girl, "Bite at the king's head" - Phillip, "Couple" - David and Di, "Little Princess" - Liz, "Stagger back" - impersonate zombies, "Bar For Shots" - firing rifle.

HF Fact: Sandford is the name given to the town used for most UK police training scenarios, the street plan of which is based on the street plan of Dundee, Scotland.

There are some facts to impress people with. :D I hope you all like them and feel free to discuss any of the movies here. :D

Great topic, xXSorasXx! I learned more things about one of my favorite trilogies and acting teams. Would love to have more of these - perhaps the Alien saga, hint , hint? Or other great film sagas- [2001-2060, 28 Days, The Romero films, Star Trek, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, so many possibilities] -the themes and interwoven cast/crew just seem to make the trilogy stronger.

In all that spare time you have of course...
